Parliamentary Forum on Workers Compensation

150417 Invitation to forum website sizeInjured workers right to fair workers compensation benefits is one that is under continued assault from the Coalition government. For this reason the restoration of decent workers compensation benefits must be a central issue in the new Parliament.

There are systemic issues in the ‘reformed’ WorkCover scheme that have left injured workers on the scrap heap and without fair access to lost wages, medical benefits or legal assistance. This is not good enough.

My office will be holding a Parliamentary Forum to discuss the NSW workers compensation scheme, in particular the damaging impacts of the 2012 Workers Compensation “reforms” and what can and should be done to restore decency to the scheme.

When: Monday 18 May 2015, 2PM.
Where: Theatrette, NSW Parliament, Macquarie Street, Sydney.
Who: Injured workers, union representatives, legal and insurance professionals.

The forum will be an important opportunity to better understand the changes to the workers compensation scheme, meet with people who may have been similarly affected, rally together for justice and build the case for a reform to decency.

If you are interested in attending or wish to find out more information please contact my office on (02) 9230 3030 or Chandi.Bates@parliament.nsw.gov.au

We will ensure that there is time at the end for questions and brief statements from the floor. As we anticipate many of those present will want to take this opportunity we are asking you to provide details of your question or statement in advance so we can allow as many people as possible to contribute.

The below template can be emailed through to the office:
