Great North Walk One: Sydney to Boronia Park

When: Friday 24 March, meet at 9.15am – 9.45am ferry from Circular Quay to Woolwich, finished at Boronia Park 12:00

The walk:  Moving from the waterfront at Woolwich through the leafy streets of Woolwich and Hunters Hill this is one of the more urban segments of the Great North Walk. It was a grey day with occasional spots of rain. The walk took us through historic Kelly’s Bush – site of Australia’s first Green Ban by the BLF and a great reminder of the importance of political action in preserving our green open spaces in NSW.

This was a great start to our attempt to tackle the first half of the Great North Walk this year, with many attendees already looking forward to the next leg on 14 May 2017 from Boronia Park to North Ryde.

Little Bay to La Perouse

When: Sunday 26 March, meet at 9.30am arrived at La Perouse headland at 12.15.

The walk: An easy to moderate walk around the coast hugging the side of a couple of golf courses, the walk winds its way to Cape Banks and then La Perouse. The walk takes in pretty Little Bay Beach with its quality snorkelling, then moves along the coastal fringe of the golf course, fire-trail, a colonial cemetery, then across a small bridge to picturesque Cape Banks. We then headed back along beaches to the Henry Head walking track past the lighthouse and through the Botany Bay Kamay National Park. The walk includes spectacular and changing views of the coastline and historic sites along the way including WWII coastal fortifications.
