It has been 27 years since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. The number of Aboriginal deaths in custody has increased and Aboriginal people are the most incarcerated people in the world.
People from across the community will join in with First Nations people and Fighting in Resistance Equally to demand justice.
Who: Aboriginal Activists and Elders, Fighting in Resistance Equally, Greens MP David Shoebridge
Where: Town Hall
When: 12 May, 1pm
Greens MP and Aboriginal Justice Spokesperson David Shoebridge said:
“Aboriginal people are more likely to charged, more likely to be refused bail and more likely to spend time in jail than non-Aboriginal people who commit the same offence.
“It’s a stain on our current and past Parliaments that the majority of the recommendations from the Royal Commission still aren’t implemented 27 years later.
“It’s time to stand shoulder to shoulder with First Nations people and deliver justice” Mr Shoebridge said.
