MEDIA ALERT: No Forced Adoptions Rally and Media Briefing
With the Coalition government looking to force through dramatic pro-adoption changes in the dying two weeks of the NSW Parliament a large gathering of NGO’s, advocates and survivors of past forced adoption practices are holding a rally and media briefing at NSW Parliament tomorrow.
Labor Shadow Minister Tania Mihailuk and Greens MP David Shoebridge will join a broad coalition of survivors, children’s welfare agencies, Aboriginal organisations and community groups to stand up against proposed changes to allow forced adoptions in NSW.
Ten years ago was the apology to the Stolen Generations, five years ago was the apology for Forced Adoptions, last month to survivors of institutional abuse, yet the NSW Government plans to push through laws that would see a whole generation of vulnerable, often Aboriginal, children forcibly adopted and taken from their families without the consent of their parents.
